Orlando Boy Wins Prize
On Racer

Florida’s Soap Box
Derby champion, Ralph Schnur of Orlando, didn’t win the International
Derby Championship yesterday, but he did cop one of the major prizes—: a
trophy for having the best up-holstered racer among the 130 entered in
the event.
The 15-year-old youth was presented his award at the banquet for
champions last night in Akron, where the championshipe were run. Earlier
he was presented with a watch by W. E. Holler, Chevrolet Company general
sales manager and father of Roger W. Holler of Orlando.

Racing before a crowd
of nearly 50,000, young Schnur placed third in heat 12, making excellent
time for a first-time entrant. Thomas Fisher of Detroit was the
champion, and gets a college education scholarship. He flashed over the
1031 foot course in 26.68 seconds in his gravity racer.
The Holler Chevrolet Company, the Orlando Sentinel-Star and the American
Legion sponsored the derby here at which Schnur won the right to enter
the champion- ship competition.
