Derby champion, Ralph Schnur of Orlando, didn’t win the International
Derby Championship yesterday, but he did cop one of the major prizes—: a
trophy for having the best up-holstered racer among the 130 entered in
the event.
The 15-year-old youth was presented his award at the banquet for
champions last night in Akron, where the championshipe were run. Earlier
he was presented with a watch by W. E. Holler, Chevrolet Company general
sales manager and father of Roger W. Holler of Orlando.

Racing before a crowd
of nearly 50,000, young Schnur placed third in heat 12, making excellent
time for a first-time entrant. Thomas Fisher of Detroit was the
champion, and gets a college education scholarship. He flashed over the
1031 foot course in 26.68 seconds in his gravity racer.
The Holler Chevrolet Company, the Orlando Sentinel-Star and the American
Legion sponsored the derby here at which Schnur won the right to enter
the champion- ship competition.
