53 Entries Start in Soap Box Derby <\/span><\/h1>\n

Fifty-three entries, 35 in the Class A division and 18 in Class B division <\/span> were <\/i><\/span>on the starting line this afternoon as the first cars answered the opening gun at 1 o’clock in the Central Florida Soap Box Derby championships held at East Concord and Hyer Street. <\/span><\/p>\n

The 53 youngsters will fight it out for the finalists roles and decide the winner that will go on to the International Derby at Akron, Ohio a week from today. <\/span><\/p>\n

Before the race got underway prizes were awarded to many winners for construction of their cars. . Edwin Boon. 1351 Westchester, took first place honors for the best constructed car in the Class A division. Henry Chrusano. 711 West Columbia, was second and Vernon Jackson. 1371\/2 East Par, third <\/span><\/p>\n

William Dyer, 416 Sheridan, was first in the Class B division; John Corkhill, 501 East Miller, second and Allen Hutchinson, 111 West Princeton, third. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

\u00a0Judged the best-looking car in the “A” class, boys from 13 to 15 years of age, was the silver and black “speed mill” of 15-year-old James Osborn, 210 Glenwood, who was sponsored by Gibbs Service Station.
\nWinner of the Class “B” award was the stream-lined entry of Robert Schutt \u2014 Cannonball Schutt, so a printed sign on the body of the car heralded. Young1 Schutt. who lives at 1509 Woodward Avenue, contracted his car; along airplane fuselage lines. <\/span><\/p>\n

An “Oliver 70 Special”\u2014green trimmed in yellow\u2014won second
\nplace award in the B event for Allen Hutchinson, 111 W. Central. John Corkhill, 501 Miller Street, was the third place winner in the division. “Corky” was sponsored at the last minute by Carey Hand.
\nThe runnerups for the best looking car in the Class A division were Ralph Schnur, 1050 37th,’ Street and Robert McMillan
